Democracy's Real Threat



There has been a proliferation of handwringing and dire warnings regarding the fate of the American democracy from the Left's media-political-industrial complex. The fear is borne from the residual effects of Trumps presidency, his claims of election fraud, and the January 6th fiasco.  Much of hyperbole is in regards to various election laws which have either been passed or are being considered in states across the country. The Left is claiming that Republican law makers are trying to suppress the votes of minorities and allow for partisan control of election boards.  The claims that the American democracy is on the verge of total collapse at the hands of fascists trying to eliminate voting rights and free elections is more political rhetoric and posturing than it is fact.  I mean not being able to hand out water to voters in line is not really an existential threat...but what do I know? 

But is America's democracy in really such peril? Yes...but not because of the recent changes to voting laws.  No, America's democracy is in a precarious position because we are governed by immature, self-serving imbeciles who have little desire or ability to govern a democratic republic.  Furthermore, political ideology has so thoroughly corrupted the media, that it is failing to hold those idiots accountable and ensure the American public has credible and truthful information with which to make decisions and understand the policy decisions of the government.

The idiocy of our law makers cannot be underestimated.  Out of the 537 elected officials in the federal government, there are only a small handful that are worth more than a warm bucket of spit.  AOC, the rest of the Squad, Gaetz, Cawthorne, Bush, and MGT are just a handful of vacuous, media attention whores, who advocate for awful policies and positions.  I see them as unserious, but unfortunately I think they take themselves too seriously.  They are idiots on parade being cheered by partisan media allies, who themselves are not worth much either.

Our American Democracy needs, nay, requires, a government of people with more integrity, more maturity, and more intellect to serve as elected officials than the bozos we have currently.  Sure, be pissed about voting rights legislation.  But I am more pissed that our media has no interest in reporting the truth about the legislation.  Sure, get upset with Joe Rogan and his fans for misinformation, but I get more pissed that CNN, for much of the pandemic allowed the obvious inappropriate and positive reporting of Gov. Andrew Cuomo by his brother Chris while thousands of seniors in nursing homes died.  

Democracy is on the verge of being destroyed...but it will be because of the people our democratic system has elected to lead us and the pathetic media that refuses to do its job.

Social Media's Threat to our Culture

The news of Donald Trump getting banned by Twitter has reverberated all across the various media outlets and internet ether.  It has created interesting discussions and arguments regarding the freedom of speech along with growing concerns of the ability of so few to control so much (I won't get into that here...maybe later). The decision to ban Trump for his role in inciting an insurrection was followed by Apple's and Amazon's suspension of Parler on similar grounds.  To many on the Left, these are largely applauded and welcome actions.  Conversely, many on the right see this as an existential threat to democracy.  To be fair, there are also many who cast a weary eye towards such actions, but think this particular case was warranted.   Regardless of where you stand on the banning of Trump and the suspension Parler, those incidents reveal a deeper, much more complicated issue regarding the role social media plays in our democracy and culture.  In the ea...

The Truth About the Transgender Narrative

I have recently sat through a number of local school board meetings and have left fascinated, confused, and depressed.  What was once a really boring and often little attended affair, school board meetings have now become Jerry Springer episodes.  Crowds filled with anger and vitriol and armed with propaganda of their social media echo chamber are storming these meetings with torches and pitchforks, ready to burn it down.  The issue?  Broadly speaking, LGBTQ.  But much of it revolves around the “T” in that acronym.  And that is where much of my fascination lies.  The transgender movement, to me, has moved at a speed and with a magnitude I have never seen before.
