Institutional Racism: The Problem of White Liberals

The constant refrain these days among the woke left, the trendy SJWs, and the BLM crowd is that the protests are a result of  the prevalent systemic and institutional racism.  I have some issues with these terms, mainly because I think they are deliberately abstract as to conveniently apply to almost any situation with no specific individual who is responsible.  They are a broad brush that paints well outside any defined lines.  However hard I find it to find a concrete understanding of the terms, Wikipedia provides this definition:

Institutional racism (also known as systemic racism) is a form of racism expressed in the practice of social and political institutions. It is reflected in disparities regarding wealth, income, criminal justice, employment, housing, health care, political power and education, among other factors.

Broad brush indeed.  But here is the problem with the Left's belief in institutional racism, especially the white-left.  Almost all of the institutions are controlled by white liberals.  Education, media, and Hollywood are all dominated and controlled by left wing progressives.  Even corporate America, which was once thought as a bastion of conservative republicans, is now left-leaning.  Some of the largest companies in the world (Amazon, Google, Apple, Nike, Johnson & Johnson, Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, Target) all have progressive tendencies.  While the make up of state governments are based on elections, the bureaucratic agencies are almost always liberal heavy.  

But here's the deal, when white liberals make supportive statements about "white privilege", "systemic racism", or institutional racism", they are not making those statements to hold themselves accountable in any way.  If they did believe those statements and are not merely just playing lip-service, you would here university presidents and media types say something like, "It is not fair or just that I hold this position while a more deserving person of color does not have it, so I will step down."  No, they say these things to insulate themselves from having to be accountable to their own ideological vortex of illogical batshit craziness.  They say these things to halt the mob storming their castle gate with torches and pitchforks.  They will prostrate themselves to protect themselves from the cannibalism of their own progressive goons.  

White liberals hold the keys to many, if not most, of the institutions that can play a pivotal role in fighting real racism.  But I am not sure they want to defeat that opponent because in doing so, they must fall on their own sword.  At the end of the day, it really is about self-preservation.  If they did defeat racism, what will they use to get Americans angry and at the polls?  White liberals have met their enemy and it is themselves.  They just can't stomach it.

Social Media's Threat to our Culture

The news of Donald Trump getting banned by Twitter has reverberated all across the various media outlets and internet ether.  It has created interesting discussions and arguments regarding the freedom of speech along with growing concerns of the ability of so few to control so much (I won't get into that here...maybe later). The decision to ban Trump for his role in inciting an insurrection was followed by Apple's and Amazon's suspension of Parler on similar grounds.  To many on the Left, these are largely applauded and welcome actions.  Conversely, many on the right see this as an existential threat to democracy.  To be fair, there are also many who cast a weary eye towards such actions, but think this particular case was warranted.   Regardless of where you stand on the banning of Trump and the suspension Parler, those incidents reveal a deeper, much more complicated issue regarding the role social media plays in our democracy and culture.  In the ea...

The Truth About the Transgender Narrative

I have recently sat through a number of local school board meetings and have left fascinated, confused, and depressed.  What was once a really boring and often little attended affair, school board meetings have now become Jerry Springer episodes.  Crowds filled with anger and vitriol and armed with propaganda of their social media echo chamber are storming these meetings with torches and pitchforks, ready to burn it down.  The issue?  Broadly speaking, LGBTQ.  But much of it revolves around the “T” in that acronym.  And that is where much of my fascination lies.  The transgender movement, to me, has moved at a speed and with a magnitude I have never seen before.
