The Danger of Liberty

Nature abhors a vacuum. Similarly, progressives hate liberty. Not their liberty, but yours.  Your liberty is a constant threat to their ability to construct a more "just" and perfect society.  Your liberty elicits uncomfortable outcomes. Your liberty leads to inequalities, makes winners, and also losers. Your liberty is dangerous, too dangerous. Your liberty is the cause of oppression and injustice.  Their liberty is just...right...sacred.  They will gladly and self righteously exchange your liberty and property to make themselves feel morally and intellectually superior.

They are content to live in their nearly all white enclaves, with similar thinking neighbors, and send their kids to the most exclusive private schools.  But you dare think to home school your kid, and they see it as an affront to their liberal indoctrination factories known as public schools.  They can own multiple homes, own private jets, and leave a carbon foot print as large as Sasquatch. You drive a Ford F250, and you are the reason for melting ice caps. They can speak openly on all social media platforms and be welcomed at universities to give speeches.  You post so something heretical to the left and you will find yourself in Twitter jail or banned.  You wear a MAGA hat and you deserve to be accosted. They absolve themselves of their white privilege by merely agreeing to it in principle, but will never take necessary steps to address it personally. You, however, must pay a penance.

They are free to generalize, speak their "truth", and demonize their enemies. Your speech is violence and hatred. They can slander, assassinate characters, and "cancel" others they don't like with impunity under the First Amendment. You disagree or criticize their logic, and you are labeled a racist and privileged. They can march and protest during the pandemic and violate social distancing orders from public health. You go to church and you are worse than Satan.

You know who else hates individual liberty, governments.  Individual liberty challenges the prerogative of the ruling class. That is why liberals love governments...they share a common enemy.   But it's also why our founding fathers spent so much time and care crafting a constitution and government that attempted to protect individual liberty. Most American's are familiar with the Preamble to the Constitution, however, I wonder how any know the Preamble to the Bill of Rights:

THE Conventions of a number of the States having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added: And as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government, will best insure the beneficent ends of its institution

It is astonishing to me that we are watching our liberties being slowly eroded, not so much by the government, but by the media/education/corporate complex. Here is an opportunity for our elected officials to remember that they have sworn an oath, as a requirement of their position, to uphold the Constitution. But I am not hopeful. Liberty is for the mature, the reasonable, the logical, and responsible. In the hands of the emotional, petty, impetuous, and self righteous, liberty dies a painful death.
