Capitalism Pt 1

In conservative circles, recently, capitalism has become a center of debate.  Much of it started with Tucker Carlson’s rant that attacked the belief in free market economy.  This was followed up most recently by Marc Rubio’s article discussing “Common Good Capitalism.”  Afterwhich, Kevin D. Williamson, took umbrage with Rubio and his ideas.  There are a number of reasons for this focus on capitalism.  The first is that capitalism and the reliance on the free market is, or has been a cornerstone of conservatism, even when conservatives and Republicans promote policies that are contradictory to this idea, which happens more often than not.  Second, it appears that the liberal and progressive agenda seems to be moving further away from market economy to openly embracing socialism.  As democratic candidates push Medicare for all, Green New Deal, free college, etc, it seems the centrist position is being pushed further left.  However, I th...

Faith and Science

One of the most critical moments in my religious faith happened while I was a freshmen in college.  I took an anthropology course from an instructor who spent the first week railing against religion. His main target, however, was the Judeo-Christian faiths.  Now at that time, I was familiar with ideas such as the Big Bang and Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, but was not subject to an onslaught such as this.  He attacked religion with veracity, anger, and logic.  He used his “authority” with certainty.  The gloves were off.   He went for the jugular.  There was no need to soften blows or provide parental warnings— this was college.  At first, my defense mechanism kicked in and I scoffed at his ideas and rolled my eyes.  I can feel my anger welling up inside and wanting to argue with him.  However, a braver soul than I attempted a dissenting argument.  He quickly filleted her.  I took note and sat quietly.  After about the...

Progressives & Nazis

I have grown weary of attempts by one ideology to compare the other ideology to Nazis, Hitler, Stalin, etc.  It is not because I think comparing current trends and characteristics to the past is not useful. Quite the contrary, it is of most importance.  However, in today’s political climate these comparisons have become lazy, routine, and lacking some critical analysis or substance. With that being said, I am going to do that very thing, but hopefully, I think, in a more productive way.  I believe that Progressive ideology shares a very crucial characteristic to the Nazis and Hitler. Not in substance, but in method, and in its nature.  When I was in college, a history professor explained a theory about Hitler and the Nazis and their attempt to take over the European continent.  The professor was attempting to explain why the Germans couldn’t stop after the Anschluss with Austria, the grab of the Sudetenland, and eventually taking the rest of Czechoslova...
